Restaurants in Yarm
Yarm has a wide choice of restaurants for a small town, almost all of them on or just off the High Street. Italian is especially well covered, but you'll also find Spanish tapas, a Turkish charcoal grill, Indian, and gastropubs doing proper Sunday lunches.
This guide sorts them by what you're in the mood for, with picks for families, special occasions and brunch.
Italian and pizza
Yarm is spoilt for Italian food. Cena Trattoria (85 High Street) is a modern Italian restaurant from the Muse group, the team behind Muse in Yarm and The Bay Horse at Hurworth. La Piazza (76 High Street) serves pizzas, fresh pasta and cocktails in a lively setting and is open from 11am, which makes it an easy choice for lunch or a family meal. Luna Blu (16 High Street) mixes Italian and Mediterranean dishes.
For pizza, Finzi (80 High Street) is a family business from the Veneto region of Northern Italy making gourmet pizzas with ingredients from small Italian suppliers. It was voted Best Pizza in Yarm by our readers. For a pizza at home, Yarm Pizza (105 High Street) is the takeaway option.
Tapas, Turkish, Indian and Pan-Asian
La Terraza (first floor, High Street) serves Spanish tapas and cocktails from 9am until late every day. Elif Turkish Cuisine (48 High Street) specialises in charcoal-grilled kebabs, meze platters and Turkish wines, and works well for family nights out as well as evenings with friends.
For curry, Soul Curry (49 High Street) is an Indian restaurant that also does takeaway. Just outside town in Eaglescliffe, Little Lotus is a Pan-Asian restaurant and cocktail bar from the team behind Lotus Lounge, built around sharing dishes, with takeaway and delivery too.
Gastropubs and Sunday lunch
The Keys (65 High Street) is a gastropub with locally sourced food, Sunday lunches and a sunny terrace with views of Yarm viaduct. It stays open late for drinks. The Blue Bell, a former 1700s coaching inn on the banks of the River Tees, serves seasonal menus, pub classics and Sunday lunch, with a riverside beer garden.
For pub food on the High Street, The Black Bull serves British pub dishes and burgers, The Ketton Ox serves food from noon to 8pm, and Osbournes (24 High Street) does relaxed pub food from breakfast through to the evening.
Special occasions
For an anniversary or a dinner date, Muse (104b High Street) is Yarm's stylish European restaurant, and Cena Trattoria from the same group is the pick for Italian. Elif and La Terraza are good for a livelier evening. Several restaurants, including The Keys and The Blue Bell, have space for private events.
Families and dietary needs
La Terraza is the most family-ready restaurant in town, with a children's menu, highchairs and a separate gluten-free menu. La Piazza, Elif and Little Lotus also welcome families. For a treat afterwards, Treats of Yarm (12 High Street) does waffles, crêpes and ice cream.
If you have other dietary needs, it's worth ringing ahead: menus change, and most restaurants are happy to advise.
Brunch and lunch
The Keys, The Ketton Ox and The Black Bull all do bottomless brunch, and Osbournes and The Mockingbird both do brunch through the week. For a quicker lunch, see our guide to cafes in Yarm, which covers breakfast, coffee and sandwich spots.
